Way Huge Aqua-Puss mkII

Price not available from Amazon or Find it on eBay

If you’re looking for a delay specifically designed with slapback in mind, the Aqua-Puss is the perfect choice and wallet-friendly too.

The Aqua-Puss will give you a warm and smooth delay that you expect from an analogue pedal and will add depth to your sound. It is not a very versatile pedal though. If you will only be using it for slapback, it is perfect. The problem is, it only has a maximum of a 300ms delay so for those longer, more ambient delays, it won’t cut it.

Pros

  • Excellent sound quality.
  • Designed with slapback in mind.
  • Wallet-friendly.

Cons

  • Not very versatile – only really good for slapback.

Strymon El Capistan

The Strymon El Capistan is a great choice if you’re looking for a delay pedal that is capable of slapback and much more.

If you will only use a delay for slapback, then you should probably skip the El Capistan because it’s fairly expansive and you won’t really need it’s extra capabilities. But if you want a digital delay that emulates classic tape delay very well, definitely consider this pedal.

The El Capistan has three tape heads, each with three different modes, so there are plenty of different delay effects you can create. It also features tap tempo so you can quickly and easily sync your favourite delays with the music. Although it’s a fantastic delay pedal, it does come at quite a cost, especially if your will only be using it for slapback.

Pros

  • Excellent sound quality.
  • Lots of settings and customization.
  • Features tap tempo.

Cons

  • Quite expensive.

Price not available from Amazon or Find it on eBay

The TC Electronic Flashback 2 is another great delay pedal if you want to be able to create lots of other delays as well as slapback.

The Flashback 2 has lots of settings making it very versatile and the sound quality is excellent too. Some of the unqiue features of the Flashback 2 include the Mash button which is basically a built-in expression pedal. Apply more pressure for a more intense effect. You also get three TonePrint slots to save your favourite effects. It’s compact and reasonably priced too.

Danelectro Fab Echo

The Danelectro Fab Echo is the perfect delay pedal for slapback on a budget.

In terms of what this pedal is capable of, it is very limited. There are only two settings: mix and repeat. However, if the only thing you will be using this pedal for is slapback, it is more than capable of producing a decent sound. It might not have the best build or sound quality, but it is ridiculously cheap and you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Pros

  • Incredibly budget friendly.
  • Great for slapback.

Cons

  • Not very versatile – only really good for slapback.

Danelectro Dan Echo

The Danelectro Dan Echo has a very retro look and feel to it and you can pick it up for a very reasonable price.

It’s a great pedals for slapback but fairly versatile and is capable of longer delays too. It’s great at simulating an analog delay and it has a warm and smooth tone. The highlight of the Dan Echo is the hi-cut knob. This allows you to cut the high frequencies on the repeat so you can really dial in the perfect tone.

The only real downside of this pedal is that it doesn’t have features like tap tempo or presets that some delay pedals do have.

Pros

  • Great retro look and sound.
  • Fairly versatile.
  • Reasonably priced.

Cons

  • Lacks features such as presets and tap tempo.
